Good morning my hygge friends!
It is officially June which means Summer is almost here! What does this mean for all of our cozy blankets we have been holding on to during the thunderstorms, or the mugs with the perfect cuddle capacity, or the delicious sweaters we love to wear? With the change of season you needn't fear the hygge factor leaving your life for the next few months, but instead it is the perfect time to really understand what it means to be hygge - for true hygge does transcend time and place. If we keep in mind that being hygge is being more intentional with enjoying the moments we have and bringing in elements of joy into our life, summer hygge can be simple and fun (and some may even argue more enjoyable) than winter hygge. To help you along the way here are three simple hygge elements you can implement into summer hygge.
Light - Hygge is all about creating and enjoying lighting. Candles and cozy lamps in the darkness of winter provide the perfect hygge light factor. In summer we are lucky to have the sun provide an effortless light element of hygge. It gives us the suntanned smell, turns living things into a mess of green life, and gives us the healthly douse of vitamins that we crave after a long cold winter. This summer try to incorporate the sunlight into your life by opening windows or better yet - going outside!
Presence - In the slow season of winter hygge it can be very easy to practice being present in each moment. But with the upcoming bustle of summer weddings, parties, and traveling, practicing hygge by being fully present in each moment can be more difficult. However, if you are doing all of these fun summer activities, don't regret them by not enjoying them. Make these bustling times hygge by taking all of the joyful moments and pausing. Squeeze all of the joy out of these summer moments and enjoy them fully.
Pleasure - This is the last element of hygge that I think you should incorporate in your summer hygge. I am not necessarily saying that you need to create more pleasure moments from all of the summer activiites you already have planned. But take the new daily summer task we may have and make them hygge by taking pleasure in them. We have to make dinner - why not grill and enjoy it with some summer lemonade? We have to mow the lawn and be in the hot sun - why not take deep breaths of the fresh mown grass and take pleasure in the hard work you have done sweating to make your yard look beautiful? The change of season is inevitable - why not make it hygge?
